FOR DISTRICT ADMINISTRATORS
RAISE Algebra 1 Curriculum for Your District
RAISE Algebra 1 Curriculum is an initiative of Rice University's OpenStax, a free digital curriculum provider for secondary and higher education. RAISE Algebra 1 Curriculum is an innovative, standards-aligned curriculum that provides high interactivity to students and valuable support for teachers. We seek district partners who will participate in a research-practice partnership model that will advance our collective understanding of Algebra 1 teaching and learning and close achievement gaps for underrepresented students.
Elevating Algebra I teachers, students & districts
As a district partner, your teachers and students will gain access to RAISE Algebra 1 curriculum, free, professional learning opportunities and implementation support. Equally important, you will be empowered to co-create our research agenda, so we can collaboratively work to understand which pedagogical approaches and interventions are most effective in promoting student success. Ultimately, your district becomes a model for a research-practice partnership that contributes to knowledge and understanding of how our students best learn Algebra 1.
OPEN TO ALL TEXAS DISTRICTS
Partnering with RAISE
District partners are critical in our effort to evaluate and improve upon RAISE curriculum on a large scale. We are seeking district partners who will:
SPREAD THE WORD
Facilitate access to your Algebra 1 teachers, so that we may recruit classroom teachers interested in utilizing our free teaching resources and providing feedback to our curriculum developers.
SHARE CLASSROOM LEARNINGS
Be willing to engage in a data-sharing agreement such that our researchers may study de-identified student data from participating teachers to understand which math interventions lead to the largest student learning gains.
PROTECTING STUDENT INFORMATION
Data Usage & Privacy
The protection of student data is a top priority for Rice University and the RAISE project. Measures and guidelines are in place to ensure student privacy and proper data security.
This project aims to improve Algebra I teaching and learning for underserved students in Texas, specifically Black, Hispanic/Latinx, and students experiencing poverty (priority students). Data will provide researchers with an understanding of which learning interventions lead to the highest Algebra 1 learning gains and engagement among priority student populations.
The scope of the district data share agreements are limited to the use of teacher and student data solely to research and develop math solutions for priority students in order to improve student achievement and generate valuable insights and tools for Algebra 1 teaching and learning. The learning science research agenda will be co-created with academic researchers, participating teachers, and district leadership annually.
Rice University and OpenStax take the protection of student data very seriously. District partners will use codes, ID numbers or other non-personal identifiers when sharing student data with research partners. Rice University and OpenStax will maintain the confidentiality of any and all student data obtained as a part of our data share agreement.
