EVALUATING THE PROBLEM

A Complete Curriculum

We know that Algebra 1 is a critical “gateway course” in K12, and that success in Algebra 1 is a predictor of on-time graduation rates, success in higher-level mathematics, and post-secondary success. We also know there are widening achievement and opportunity gaps among historically underrepresented minority and economically disadvantaged students, acutely exacerbated by pandemic-related learning disruptions. RAISE aims to improve Algebra 1 teaching and learning for underserved students, in Texas and beyond, specifically among Black and Hispanic students and students experiencing poverty.

The RAISE curriculum is high-quality, accessible Algebra 1 content that can be used at no cost to teachers or students. Our content is developed by mathematics curriculum experts and education research professionals to ensure rigor, quality, accuracy and alignment to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). Additionally, RAISE is 100% aligned to ELPS to support English language learners and emerging bilingual learners.

RAISE is easy to implement, supportive of diverse learners, and promotes student engagement by incorporating interactive tools and videos based on proven principles of multimedia learning and instructional design. Our curriculum has been designed to support teachers and students with units, lessons, assessments, and teacher support guides to span the academic year.

Course Units

Each of our 9 units are CCSS and TEKS aligned and will prepare students for success on cumulative end-of-course assessments, including the Texas Algebra 1 STAAR exam.

Unit 1: Linear Equations
Unit 2: Linear Systems and Inequalities
Unit 3: Two-Variable Statistics
Unit 4: Functions
Unit 5: Introduction to Exponential Functions
Unit 6: Working with Polynomials
Unit 7: Introduction to Quadratic Functions
Unit 8: Quadratic Equations
Unit 9: More Quadratic Equations

RAISE offered students the ability to relate each topic to real-world problems with  the "Why It's Important" Section. A MUST HAVE!!!”

A RE-IMAGINED CURRICULUM

What Sets RAISE Apart?

RAISE Algebra 1 Curriculum is a free, high-quality instruction material (HQIM) and research-based curriculum meaning that RAISE Algebra 1 Curriculum is designed in accordance with best practices in learning science research. Multimedia learning theory, cognitive load theory, spaced retrieval practice, and student motivation and persistence all play heavily in the design of our curriculum. Dr. Katie Bainbridge leads our research and development, placing these concepts into real-world contexts and problems that allow students a more nuanced understanding of the concepts behind equations. Learn more about the value of these evidence-based approaches to teaching and learning.
